PEEL AWAY I has been used on numerous lead paint abatement projects for HUD, Capitol Buildings, military installations and other high profile restoration projects. PEEL AWAY I , an alkaline paste, will remove thirty (30) coats of paint or more in a single application and there are NO TOXIC FUMES OR FLAMMABLE SOLVENTS. PEEL AWAY I is a thick paste that is either trawled or sprayed (specialized equipment) onto the surface being stripped and is covered with a fibrous laminated cover that accompanies our product. This allows the paste to work in a completely sealed environment without any evaporation. When the stripping action is complete (usually an overnight dwell time) in the removal process, the bulk of the paste/paint adheres to the fiber side of the cover for easy collection of the waste and the surface is cleaned with water and neutralized. In addition, the lime in PEEL AWAY I, will in most cases, stabilize the lead being removed taking it out of a hazardous waste category in terms of disposal.

GUIDE FOR USING PEEL AWAY I FOR THE REMOVAL OF LEAD BASED PAINT

PEEL AWAY ST-1 is the choice product for the removal of lead based paint from steel structures. By using the PEEL AWAY ST-1 product to remove lead paint you eliminate the need to total containment (only ground containment required) and the need for specialized breathing equipment for the workers. Since PEEL AWAY ST-1 is keeping the paint in a wet or damp state, there is no exposure to airborne lead dust, which maximizes worker safety, comfort and productivity. Projects using the PEEL AWAY ST-1 system for the removal of lead paint from oil and water storage tanks usually were bid for approximately $4.00 per square foot for a total job including waste disposal. Using PEEL AWAY ST-1 you will collect only ONE 55-gallon drum of waste for every 1200 sq. feet of area stripped. The equivalent waste generated sandblasting would be 4 to 6 TONS of waste.

NEW YORK STATE DOT BRIDGES
Two overpass bridges totaling 40,000 square feet in NYS were recently stripped with the PEEL AWAY process. 60 mils of PEEL AWAY ST-1 was applied and 4 hours later, using the ICE BLAST SYSTEM, the surface was clean and ready for paint.

The benefits realized by using PEEL AWAY for this project were:
1. Minimum containment was required. Even during lane closure, simple hanging drapes and plastic floor tarping contained all PEEL AWAY residues and rinse liquids. And, as opposed to water blasting, which can produce in excess of 300 gallons an hour of free liquids, this process left less than ten gallons an hour, easily recovered with shop vacuums and combined with the solids wastes thereby completely eliminating any free liquids.
2. Worker safety and environmental readings indicated non-detectable lead levels outside the containment area and PEL's were low enough so that only half-masks were required.
3. The use of a surface tolerant coating precluded the need for any surface profiling other than to remove any existing loose corrosion or mil scale. The steel was stripped, checked for proper pH and painted. It was that easy!
4. Even though this was a test project, performed through normal state contracting procedures, costing indicated a potential savings of over 20% when compared to average costs for full containment abrasive blasting.

NOTE: If you have an epoxy barrier coating underneath bottom paint, and you do not want to remove it, use PEEL AWAY MARINE STRIP II. This product will remove the bottom paint and stop at the epoxy barrier coat.

A recent project (see photos) done with the SAFE N' EASY HEAVY DUTY CLEANER was on a sixty year old, twelve story brick and limestone building located in NYC. The product was rolled on the surface and in fifteen (15) minutes was power washed to reveal beautiful red brick and white limestone. A new anti-graffiti system now commercially available has been used to safely remove stubborn graffiti and apply a non sacrificial wateproofing/anti-graffiti coating from the landmark headquarters building of the National Audubon Society on Broadway in New York City.

The graffiti was removed from the Society building's exterior facade, which is classic (and porous) "New York Brownstone" and mixture of brick, sandstone, and terracotta using PEEL AWAY 7 and the RECYCLEAN power washing/vacuum equipment. The new coating applied to the building was Dumond Anti Graffitiant.

Dumond Anti Graffitiant is a graffiti inhibitor that has all the characteristics of a penetrating weather proofing material and is prepared by using Silicone Rubber which has a high perm rate which allows moisture vapor to escape while preventing liquids or graffiti to enter the substrate.

Dumond Anti Graffitiant has been on the Audubon Building for 5 years without needing recoating, even though the building has been hit by graffiti many times over the years.
