Symptoms of Exposure |
Acute Effects: Eyes:
Vapors may cause irritation, redness, tearing and blurred vision. Skin: May cause irritation with redness
and defating of the skin on prolonged contact. Inhalation: Mists and vapors may cause irritation with coughing,
watering of the eyes and sore throat. Overexposure may cause headache,
nausea, drowsiness and abdominal pain.
Ingestion: Swallowing may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea,
vomiting, cramps and diarrhea. Chronic Effects: Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause irritation with redness and defatting of the skin. . n-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone has been found to cause toxicity in the fetus of laboratory animals exposed during pregnancy. |
Medical Conditions
Aggravated By Exposure: |
Individuals with chronic skin disorders may be at risk from exposure. |
Primary Route(s) of Entry |
Eye, skin, inhalation, ingestion |
Emergency First Aid |
Eye: Flush eye with water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. Skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing. Get medical attention if irritation develops. Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air. Restore breathing. Get medical attention. Ingestion: If conscious, give 1-2 glasses of water to dilute. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to a person who is unconscious or convulsing. Get immediate medical attention. |

VIII. Special Protection Information |
Eye Protection |
Skin Protection |
Chemical safety glasses or
goggles required. |
Butyl rubber gloves
required. |
Respiratory Protection
(Specific Type) |
Ventilation Recommended |
For spray application, a NIOSH approved organic vapor respirator may be used. |
Good general ventilation is usually adequate. If exposure limits are exceeded, local exhaust may be required. |
Other Protection |
Impervious apron, boots,
safety shower, eye wash as needed. |
IX. Special Precautions |
Hygienic Practices in
Handling & Storage |
Store in a cool, well
ventilated area away from oxidizers and other incompatible substances. |
Work Practices |
Avoid eye and skin
contact. Avoid breathing vapors. Wash thoroughly after handling. |
Other Precautions |
Use only with appropriate
protective equipment. Empty
containers retain residue and may be hazardous. |
